Three Centuries of Tradition

History & Lineage

An Unbroken Current of Transmission

The Martinist tradition is a living tapestry of Western esotericism, weaving together ritual, philosophy, and an unbroken chain of initiation. The Ancient Martinist Order (AMO) Philippines does not merely claim a historical tradition; it transmits one — a living sequence of human connection carried from 18th-century France and Russia to the modern-day Philippine Archipelago.

The Foundational Streams

The tradition draws its life from two distinct but complementary sources:

Martínez de Pasqually c. 1727–1774 · France

Founder of the Order of Elect Cohens. He established the operative-theurgic stream — a system of ritual practice aimed at humanity's spiritual reintegration with its divine origin.

Louis-Claude de Saint-Martin 1743–1803 · France

Known as the "Unknown Philosopher" and a disciple of Pasqually. He developed the inward philosophical stream, emphasizing la voie du coeur (the way of the heart) — a path of contemplation and direct personal experience of the divine.

The Evolution of the Order

In 1886, Gérard Encausse (Papus) and Augustin Chaboseau discovered they held different fragments of the Martinist transmission. By "swapping initiations," they consolidated their lineages into the Ordre Martiniste — a lodge-based system that spread rapidly across Europe, Russia, and Latin America.

By the late 19th century, the current was carried across the Atlantic by initiates of the Parisian circle, ensuring the tradition remained a living thread across continents. In April 2000, the Ancient Martinist Order was formally consolidated in Evansville, Indiana, unifying lineages from the Ordre Martiniste, Ordre Martiniste et Synarchie, and the Ordre Martiniste Initiatic Réformé.

Spread to Russia & Latin America

The Martinist current reaches Russia and Latin America through key initiates of the Parisian circle, ensuring the tradition becomes a living thread across continents.

The Unbroken Chain: From Russia to the Philippines

The specific lineage of the AMO Philippines draws significant depth from the Russian Martinist Tradition — a unique current characterized by intense theological and hermetic synthesis. This chain of succession moved through key eras to reach the Asia-Pacific region:

Era / Region Spiritual Focus
The Russian Stream Dissemination of Saint-Martin's writings into Eastern intellectual life.
The St. Petersburg Circle Scholarly preservation of the tradition through Cabala and theurgy.
The Hermetic Synthesis Integration of Martinist cosmology with the broader Western Esoteric Tradition.
The Southern Hemisphere The transmission of the lineage to the Asia-Pacific region.

The complete chain is as follows:

Sar H.D.O. — Lodge A.G.L.A. Perth, Australia

As the Venerable Wise Master of Lodge A.G.L.A. (Atah Gibor Le-olam Adonai — "Thou art mighty forever, O Lord"), Sar H.D.O. serves as the vital link to the Russian Martinist current, anchoring the Philippine tradition in its original depths.

AMO Philippines Lodge Philippines · Present Day

Established through the lineage of Lodge A.G.L.A., this body extends the unbroken initiatic chain from 18th-century France and Russia into the Philippine archipelago. It is here that the tradition continues to unfold.

Note on Succession: Out of respect for the "Unknown" nature of the tradition and the privacy of the initiatic chain, the specific names of successors following the founders are held within the archives of the Order. This ensures the focus remains on the Work rather than the personality.
